Family Medicine

Your family means everything to you. A healthy family comes from having a general practitioner who is dedicated to getting to know you and your family.

We cater for the whole family whether aged 1 or 100, male or female.  Harbour Road Medical ensures your whole family has access to quality and affordable health care.

Childhood immunisations

All government funded immunisations are conveniently performed within our practice by our nursing staff as per the recommended schedule. Once the immunisation has been given, we notify the Australian Childhood Immunisation register on your behalf.

Chronic disease management

Through the provision of caring, positive and ongoing support, our aim is to empower patients to live well and successfully integrate any changes to lifestyle.  It is highly stressful for patients and family to be identified with a chronic disease. Our GPs work with patients, their families and carers to create Disease Management and Health Care Plans tailored to the needs of each patient.

Women’s health and Implanon insertions

Many women put their own physical, emotional and mental well-being after the needs of everyone else. Harbour Road Medical encourages women to make their health a priority and therefore provide many services especially for females.

We provide a range of services and advice for:

  • Breast examinations
  • Pap smears
  • Contraception options
  • Implanon insertion and removal
  • Pregnancy planning and fertility issues
  • Information on osteoporosis
  • Abnormalities of the menstrual cycle
  • Menopause advice
  • Sexual health checks

In clinic diagnostic services

Preventative care is important to us as it reduces the chance of an unexpected emergency. Early detection of medical conditions and illnesses enable your GP to quickly identify the most appropriate care and medical service.  Having the latest in-clinic diagnostic services enables the doctors to have your results straight away.

We offer the latest in-clinic diagnostic services to our patients:

  • ECG – heart checks
  • Spirometry – lung function test
  • Arterial Doppler – arterial assessment
  • INR Testing – monitoring blood-thinning treatment
  • Pulse Oximeter – to measure oxygen levels in the blood
  • Audiometer – hearing assessment
  • Onsite Urine alcohol and drug testing

Skin checks

The sun-kissed lifestyle of North Queensland is wonderful, but it can be very damaging and dangerous to our skins. Limit your risk of skin cancer through prevention, early detection and regular check ups. With experience in a wide range of skin disorders, our GPs can advise you on the best possible care for your skin and provide you with surgical removal of skin cancers if required.  Cryotherapy (freezing) is available for smaller lesions.

Work injury and rehabilitation plans

Helping an injured worker back safely to suitable work at the earliest possible time over a period of time. Our doctors work with the employer for a workplace rehabilitation plan to find the best ways for the worker to keep their valuable work skills. We perform the assessment, provide a treatment plan and work with other specialists for further investigation if required.
